Education Information for Licensees


Salespersons and Brokers (already licensed)

Course & Instructor Evaluation Page - Rate the quality of an education course and instruction.

Salesperson Annual Education (SAE)
Licensed Salespersons who applied on or after January 1, 2006 are required to have completed 270 core real estate and related classroom hours by the end of the first year of licensure (210 hours of which were already completed before application for license). See the appropriate text and chart on the Salesperson Annual Education (SAE) requirements page.
Licensed Salespersons who applied prior to January 1, 2006 are allowed up to three years from licensure to complete the 270 hours, typically with 30 core real estate hours required during each of those three years. These licensees can refer to their appropriate text and chart on the Salesperson Annual Education (SAE) requirements page.

Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) Requirements
(for Individual Brokers and for Salespersons who have satisfied SAE requirements)
Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) refers to the Real Estate License Act's continuing education requirement (§1101.455) of 15 classroom hours (6 hours of which are the approved Legal & Ethics courses) to be completed during each two-year renewal period. Inspector Continuing Education (already licensed)

  • To renew your license on ACTIVE status, you must provide proof of professional liability insurance. Your insurance agent must complete the Certificate of Insurance form and send it to TREC by mail or fax (512-936-3863) at least 20 days prior to the expiration date of your license. You must also have completed 16 classroom hours of commission-approved core/continuing education real estate inspection courses for each 12-month period between your most recent license expiration date and your next license expiration date. Ex: If you currently have a 1 year license you, will need 16 hours; if you currently have a 2 year license, you will need 32 hours.

    If you submit your renewal without the required proof of insurance or continuing education, you will be issued an inactive license until these requirements are met. An inactive license does not permit a person to perform inspections.

    You must submit copies of course completion certificates to TREC PRIOR to renewing. If you have NOT completed the required classroom hours, your license will automatically be renewed on an INACTIVE status.
